771 million People globally do not have access to clean water, 1.7 billion people globally do not have access to adequate sanitation, 2.27 people globally do not have access to basic hygiene services.
What We Do
In the Rwenzori Region the, the primary responsibility of collecting water and ensuring good hygiene in home is mainly left to women and children, in some areas children and women spend hours a day walking to collect water thus access to clean water and good hygiene is nightmare to women and children from rural poor families.
In addressing the challenge of water, poor sanitation and hygiene, Orutambu Uganda runs household sanitation improvement awareness campaigns, provides ceramic drinking water filters to vulnerable households, provides rain water harvesting systems and hygiene facilities in schools and constructs water facilities in water stressed communities.
Orutambu also promotes environmental conservation through awareness campaigns, promoting tree planting in schools, use of energy saving technologies and protection of fragile eco- systems.
